It’s been 2 years since we first listed crypto airdrops on AirdropAlert.com. Can you believe it? In the past 24 months, we listed over 2500 free airdrops for our users, which is over 100 airdrops per month!
Let’s rewind it a bit and start from the beginning.
On March 25, 2014, the first airdrop in cryptocurrency took place with Auroracoin. This giveaway was only available for citizens of Iceland. However, over the years, the airdrop concept spread and evolved into a full-blown marketing tool for ICO’s and other fundraising crypto startups to raise awareness & engagement around their products & services.
Of course, it took a little push from Airdrop Alert to make this happen.
2017 Recap – The year airdrops really took off
In June 2017, Airdrop Alert started out as the first platform where users could find the tokenized freebies we all love from across the industry.
Why did we decide to create a website for it?
Well, let me tell you. Before we started, the projects who gave away free tokens were unable to attract a lot of users. As a result, only a few people could find out about airdrops. With our website, people had one place to find all airdrops, and we were able to gain new people who never heard about airdrops & bounties and crypto in as a whole.
With a central place of information and a collective of airdrop hunters, projects were able to promote their campaigns to a qualified audience and create the viral effect of the free token events that we know today.
2018: the year of the bear
I probably don’t have to remind you, but 2018 was a terrible year for crypto coin prices. Coins like Bitcoin, Ripple, Ethereum, and NEO took a loss of 80-95% from the top to the bottom.
That’s not an environment that makes it easy to make money or earn crypto.
During that time we focussed on further developing Airdrop Alert & the entire ecosystem. Major changes to our strategy and platform took place, including:
- First Airdrop Dashboard
- Completely new Airdrop Alert website
- Blogs section for crypto guides & airdrops content
- Upvote, comment and share airdrops functionality
- Tougher due diligence processes for airdrops to get listed
- Scaling team
- Bounties Alert – our new website
Our goal was to create a better user experience than the MVP (minimal viable product) we built in 2017. With A/B testing and user feedback, we continued to add key features and productive functionality to our platform.
2019 – Bull is in sight!
With the crypto prices bottoming out in December 2018, it was time to prepare ourselves for a bull run in 2019! We have some surprises in store in the upcoming weeks & months, so stay tuned!
Today, serious projects like Stellar, BitTorrent, Swissborg, and Solve.Care are conducting airdrops. Plus, the number of exchanges using the growth hacking tricks to boost their trading volumes and its user base is growing. It seems that a better year for airdrops is ahead of us.
We also noticed an influx in airdrop distributions lately, with More Gold Coin, Bzl Coin and of course, the distributions we manage. This is particularly encouraging for our airdrop hunters, as we predict it will take significantly less time to receive the tokens in your wallet after you completed all the tasks.
Again, we haven’t been sitting still in 2019. Our development team is laser-focused on adding more features to make our platform more beginner-friendly so everyone can use it.

There’s a long list of development plans and we’ll keep pushing new features to our platform. Some of them will be very obvious, while others are more hidden functions.
