Brave Browser Adds New Cryptocurrency Wallets

August 20, 2019

In one of our previous blog posts, we talked about Brave Browser. Just a quick recap, Brave Browser is a free and open-source browser that blocks trackers and ads. Plus, you can earn BAT tokens along the way.

Brave came into the spot when its controversial ICO was sold out in 30 seconds, raising $35 million. Yes, it’s impressive. However, the problem is that five people bought half of the supply of BAT tokens. This tells us that BAT tokens aren’t decentralized.

Despite the controversy surrounding its ICO, Brave remains a popular browser that provides more anonymity compared to other traditional browsers.

Recently, Brave partnered with Uphold wallet, to allow their users to withdraw BAT tokens from the Brave Rewards wallet.

Check this video on how to earn BAT:

However, ever since the launch of the token, the community often complained about the lack of other crypto wallets, especially MetaMask wallet. Luckily, that has changed.

Brave adds access to new crypto wallets

On its official Brave subreddit, r/BATProject, the company announced that access to the new crypto wallets was added to Brave Nightly. In case you’re not familiar, Brave Nightly is a test version of Brave Browser.

When it comes to the ”Know Your Customers” (KYC) requirements, all users still have to undergo it through Uphold. Thanks to this update, other wallets such as MetaMask can be used with Brave’s tokens.

In a conversation with CoinDesk, Brave co-founder and CEO Brendan Eich said that regulatory concerns remain the main priority for Brave:

“Brave can’t let fraud bots with Ledgers or Trezors take us to cleaners, and we have to avoid going to jail if some Office of Foreign Asset listed evildoer were to take out BAT that way. BAT is compliant via Uphold, and I’ll defend that decision readily by citing our growth numbers, both publishers and users.”

Final words

Adding support for new crypto wallets is an excellent way for Brave to increase the number of users and expand the use of its native tokens. Plus, this update comes after Brave Nightly added untargeted ads for 21 new countries.
