MyEtherWallet: How to sign and verify a wallet address

You may have been asked to prove the ownership of an Ethereum wallet, or will have to in the near future. Signing a message accomplishes this. Message signing is something you can do to prove that you control a specific wallet address and thus demonstrate that you have the ownership over the funds on that address. This guide is brought to you by AirdropAlert to explain how you can sign your wallet address and then verify the signature.

To sign a message , go to https://www.myetherwallet.com/, scroll to the bottom and click Sign Message, as shown in this GIF:

Once on the signing message page, type the message which you want to be signed, then access your wallet. On the next page, you can then click Sign Message to complete this process, just as shown in the GIF below:

And that’s it! your message is now signed. The information shown in the ‘’Signature field’’, is what you then provide to the person who asked you to sign a message. This person can then verify the message, by performing the steps shown in the following gif:
